O’Dea Genealogy in Clare Local Studies and Archives
Clare Local Studies and Archives will host a special exhibition, in partnership with the O’Dea Clan Convention, from June 13 to 16.

As part of the programme, County Librarian Helen Walsh will welcome the Clan Chieftain during a meet and greet in the Local Studies Centre, De Valera Library, on Friday, June 13, where an exhibition exploring O’Dea genealogy will be launched. Michael Talty, Local Studies librarian will present information sessions on genealogy and local history for members of the public. Events are free and all are welcome to attend.
Helen Walsh, Clare County Librarian, said, “Genealogy is an area that fascinates me and many others. Those of us who have delved into tracing our family tree can go back to the 1820s and resort to DNA tracing as well. I appreciate how valuable this knowledge is to both our own local communities and to our diaspora. Clare Libraries is quite unique in having such a wealth of online digital resources which aid those seeking to know where they come from. It is an honour to welcome a clan that has such a strong connection with County Clare. The O’Dea surname has remained consistently strong in the county over the centuries, and we look forward to their presence in our county town and new library”.
Micheal Talty, Executive Librarian, Local Studies, added, “We are delighted to welcome the new O’Dea Clan Chieftain to Clare Local Studies Centre and to launch an exhibition of records and artifacts relating to the O’Dea family, from its inception 100 years ago to the present day.”
